Get In TouchGo backHome Logic LivingHOW TO...Transform A Conservatory Into A Playhouse
By adminWednesday, 11 December 2019 Giving your child a dedicated playhouse or playroom can be very beneficial to their development, as it encourages them to be creative and play independently.
Of course, a dedicated playroom isn’t just a benefit to children. Having all your child’s toys in one place, instead of all over the house, can make things much easier to manage!
If your property has a ready-built conservatory then it’s the perfect space to turn into a playhouse for children of all ages. You can change the room as they grow, giving them their own space to have fun and be themselves.
But first, you need to make some changes to your conservatory to make it child-friendly, both in the sense of the room being fun and exciting and also in the sense of practicality and warmth.
Here are the six essential things that you need to consider during the process of how to transform a conservatory into a playhouse for your children…
1) Easy Access
If you’re designing a playhouse for younger children, then you’re going to want to make sure that they’re visible at all times. For slightly older children, easy access to the garden can be very beneficial to the playhouse design as they’ll have much more room to play and explore.
Investing in good doors for your conservatory is essential. For great visibility into the playhouse and easy access into the garden, bi-fold doors or sliding patio doors can be a good choice.
One of the most important additions to a conservatory to turn it into a year-round playroom is conservatory roof insulation. Without insulation, conservatories can get very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer, so the playhouse will only be usable for part of the year
2) Lighting
Working out the best lighting for a conservatory can be a little tricky, but there are many different conservatory lighting ideas for you to choose from.
For a bright and fresh conservatory environment, that’ll be well-suited for a children’s playroom, consider central-hanging lantern lights for a fun and practical design or wall spot lights for a unique look.
3) Warmth and Comfort
One of the most important additions to a conservatory to turn it into a year-round playroom is conservatory roof insulation. Without insulation, conservatories can get very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer, so the playhouse will only be usable for part of the year.
Multi-foil insualtion for conservatories is installed on the roof, so you don’t lose any floor space but still eliminate sun glare which can damage furniture. The insulation will help to regulate the temperature in the conservatory, making it comfortable all year and much easier to heat!
With an environment that loses less heat, you’ll also start to save money on your energy bills – a definite win-win scenario!
Painting the walls in your conservatory, adding fun (and removable) wall stickers and investing in plenty of vibrant soft furnishings will turn your conservatory into a child-friendly paradise.
4) Effective Storage
Any room that’s going to be used by children every day needs to have superb storage. If you only have a small conservatory to work with, then multi-purpose storage is a great option to go for.
Low storage units that can double-up as seating areas are an effective child-friendly option, but you can go one step further with other smart storage choices as well. Craft tables with separate drawers for craft supplies, chairs with lift-up storage areas and hanging storage compartments will all help you to manage storage a little easier.
5) Child-Friendly Décor
Conservatories have a lot of natural beauty about them, but they’re not really a naturally fun environment for children. That can easily be solved though with some colourful furnishings and a lick of paint.
Designing a playhouse for your children is one of the most exciting home improvements that you can do and with the right alterations to your conservatory, the results will be amazing!
6) Fun and Games
No conservatory playhouse is complete without plenty of added extras for your children to play with. As well as their favourite toys, there’s a lot that you can do with the space inside a conservatory to make it fun.
Painting the floor to look like a race track or board game (or buying a race track rug) will create the perfect play area; craft and building tables will create different areas for certain activities; and chalkboard paint will turn the walls into a canvas to use again and again.
