Icynene and Energy Efficient Houses: The Secret Behind The Success

Icynene and Energy Efficient Houses

IMPROVE YOUR HOMES EFFICIENCY

Icynene was born in Canada, took Northern America by storm and now has entered Britain as one of the most efficient and innovative spray foam insulations on the market. Icynene works by creating an air seal around your home which can not only save you money on bills, but also protect against damp and moisture, soundproof your home and improve you carbon footprint.

Choosing Home Logic to use Icynene to make your energy efficient home aspirations come true means:

  • Years of experience insulating properties of all sizes
  • 25-year manufacturer warranty
  • Increases the structural integrity of your property
  • Can be applied to any surface including walls, ceilings, and crawlspaces

HOW ICYNENE DIFFERS FROM SIMILAR INSULATES

Polyurethane looks like Icynene but works in a very different way. For example, Polyurethane works as a closed cell insulate,  Closed-cell foam incorporates an insulating gas that is retained within the cells (foam “blowing agent”), which leads to the highly efficient insulating properties of the material.

In the U.S., insulation is measured in “R-Value” (R= resistance to heat flow), and closed-cell polyurethane spray foam has among the highest R-Values of any commercially available insulation.

However, Polyurethane has been described by health organisations as a toxic form of insulation which can cause lung damage and invoke asthma attacks, whereas Icynene has been Green Deal Approved and  described as an eco-friendly insulate.

The future of the UK’s economy is uncertain with Britain’s recent departure from the European Union. One thing that is certain is that energy bills have doubled in the last 10 years and are set to double again by just after 2020.

There are a number of ways that homeowners can reduce their energy consumption at home. One way that is proven to improve your homes energy efficiency is Icynene insulation.

Icynene is an economically friendly and water blown spray foam insulation which has been brought into the UK from Canada and offers properties up to 35% of their energy bills and a more comfortable living environment.

It works by creating an air barrier between the inside of your home and outside. This in turn makes your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It also offers a number of other benefits including soundproofing, pest control and improving your homes EPC rating.

HOW ENERGY EFFICIENT IS ICYNENE COMPARED TO POLYURETHANE?

No it is not, and with Icynene you are still able to access your roof if a situation in the future arises such as broken roof tiles or installation of additional products such as solar panels.

We have a handy infographic prepared which demonstrates some of the differences between the two products which you can find here.

LEAVING THE EU AND BILL INCREASES

The EU currently have legislation in place which is proposing to increase V.A.T on renewable energy products from 5% to 20%. This averages out at around a £1000 increase in a typical home install using solar power on renewable energy product.

EU energy prices

During negotiations under Article 50, European Union Treaties and law continue to apply to the UK. If no agreement is reached within 2 years of the UK activating Article 50, the UK would leave the EU without any new agreement being in place.
