Icynene Insulation – Developed to Keep Canadian Houses WarmBy admin
Friday, 16 November 2018
If you watched the new series of Grand Designs then you would of seen us showcasing Icynene spray foam insulation, the preferred choice for home insulation in the UK.
Originally designed to keep Canadian houses warm, this innovative method of home insulation has spread across 30 countries and is applicable not only in homes, but also commercial and agricultural properties
Canada Has Some of the Most Extreme Weather in the World
Canada has much more extreme temperatures than the UK, and is the perfect country to display how effective a home insulation is. The variety and diversity of the weather puts up a formidable test for Icynene to show its strengths. Historic weather patterns show temperatures ranging from a sweltering 45.0c to a colder than ice reading of -63.0c.
In addition to this, the country also falls victim to heavy snowfall, rainfall and also 400km/h tornadoes! The product tolerance of this product has led to it achieving a number of certifications from globally recognized boards of approval including:
- BBA Approval (UK) – The Agrement Certificate was awarded after Icynene successfully completed a comprehensive assessment. This involved laboratory testing, on-site evaluations and inspections of the manufacturing operations. This has enabled Icynene to develop its operations in the Irish and UK Markets.
- ETA Approval (Across Europe) – From England to Croatia, Icynene Insulation has received the seal of product approval since its arrival from Canada. ETA is a document providing thorough information about a construction product, and refers to its essential characteristics.
Due to its high level of tolerance in Canada, these certifications of approval were not as difficult to achieve as with other products. The UK’s product tolerance compared to Canada is a lot lower meaning that if it has gained a seal of approval from its home country it is much more likely to here.

Canada’s Commitment to Energy Efficiency
As well as providing a high performing spray foam, It’s also environmentally friendly, as established by the Envirodesic Certification Program. Home owners applying for planning permission, buying new builds or upgrading existing properties need to take into account energy efficiency as the Government are becoming increasingly stricter with regulations.
After the fifth carbon budget, put forward by the Committee on Climate Change, the UK has agreed to make a staggering 57% reduction in carbon emissions by 2032. This high reduction will affect homes, transport and logistics of the country.
In a statement from Lord Deben, chairman of the Committee on Climate Change he stated:
“We are in danger of building houses that have to be retrofitted, which would be very expensive. We could build them now to low-carbon standards instead.”
This solidifies the need for home-owners to use Canadian spray foam insulation to help make their homes more energy efficient.
Canadian product dealers must also meet a number of requirements set by the government to sell their goods. Dealers are prohibited from shipping energy using products from province to province, or import energy using products into Canada unless:
- The product complies with the energy efficient standard; and
- The product or its package is labelled in accordance with regulations
