Insulating Solid Walls

Insulating Solid Walls

Insulating Solid Walls

It’s a common question amongst people who are used to dealing with cavity walls – what’s the best method for insulating solid walls?

This is a process undertaken to boost a property’s thermal efficiency, and to help the owner or tenant save cash on their gas and electricity bills.

The method in which you insulate a solid wall will depend largely on the type of material being used, and whether you wish to insulate the inside or the outside of your wall.

With that in mind, let’s explore the subject of solid wall insulation in greater depth…

Why Would You Consider Solid Wall Insulation?

The most obvious reason for considering such an operation is to prevent heat loss from your home. Up to a quarter of your property’s internal heat may be lost through the surrounding walls.

This is known as thermal bridging or transmission, and is most common in solid walls. The gap within a cavity wall is purposefully placed to counter this natural occurrence.

An uninsulated solid wall will not stop this transfer of heat as most building materials are incredibly poor insulators; especially concrete and brick.

So if you do have solid walls, it is extremely advisable that you have some form of insulation in place to help combat this loss of heat.

External Solid Wall Insulation

External wall insulation is a good place to start – with the use of our very own Home Logic Wall Insulation. Applying this product to your masonry will ensure it remains completely dry and water-resistant, regardless of the weather conditions outside.

Our tests have proven that your brickwork will absorb over 95% less water when this insulating material is applied.

What’s more, the application process is relatively straight forward and quick. We either spray or paint the product onto your exterior, and wait for a matter of minutes for it to settle into your wall.

This causes minimal disruption to your home life, and works with immediate effect.

A transparent barrier up to 17mm deep will be left to rest into your masonry, providing ultimate protection for up to 20 years! This not only combats water, it also prevents dirt, debris and microorganisms from attacking your brickwork.

Internal Solid Wall Insulation

Internal insulation is a lot more complicated, and in most instances, will cause disruption to your home environment.

Firstly, you must find some insulation boards and have them fitted to your wall. An insulating material is then applied to the inner-side of your wall before being covered by cladding or plasterboard.

Generally, better insulating quality is obtained via the use of thicker boarding materials.

However, these boards and this method will take up some of the floor space of your interior. Can you afford to lose any vital floor space within your home? Not a lot of people can!
