POORLY INSULATED HOMES LOSE HEAT
Insulating your home is a necessity if you’re looking to save money on rising energy bills. Energy prices have almost doubled since 2004 and with the government subsidising schemes such as wind farms and solar promotions you will be footing this in your monthly outgoings.
Studies from the NIA have shown that you can lose:
- 66% of heat can be lost through uninsulated solid walls.
- 25% of heat can be lost through poorly insulated loft/roof space.
- 20% heat loss through windows & doors.

CAN INSULATING YOUR HOME IN SUMMER BENEFIT YOU AS WELL?
By pocketing small bubbles of air you can prevent the transfer of heat or cold through a material such as Icynene, this is how insulating your home works.
By restricting the air flow between the interior and exterior of a home you can experience a cooler home in the summer which makes insulation an ideal choice for year round home comfort.
COMMON CUSTOMER QUESTIONS
If insulating my homes loft, what thickness is nationally recommended?
Current UK regulations under the EEC programme recommended a minimum of 270mm of loft insulation, however this can be discussed with your installers before.
Will electrical cabling be a hazard when it comes to spraying my home?
No they won’t, the only cables that could cause an issue is shower cables as they run at 30 amps. Our experts will be able to identify this and will take adequate procedures to ensure that cables do not overheat.
I have already insulated my home with fibreglass, will this be a problem?
Not with Home Logic, any existing insulation will be removed from your loft and be replaced with Icynene.

HOW DOES THE HEAT ESCAPE IN MY HOUSE AND THE COLD MOVE IN?
Conduction – Heat moves through solids like brickwork or metal.
Air movement – Draughts are a common form of heat loss, taking warm air from within the home and letting it out into the outside (and typically replacing it with cold air coming in). Another example is a wind blowing past a house, which will generally have a cooling effect on it. Water movement has the same effect, but there are no known UK examples of systems to recover heat from water before it is put into the drains.
Evaporation – Not a process that we naturally associate with heat loss, but if it rains on a hot summer day, after the rain stops, some of it may evaporate from the roof and walls, and this will cool the home considerably.
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF HOME INSULATION
Another benefit of insulating your home is a reduced environmental impact. With an insulated home you will be using less energy for heating and cooling your home.
This will reduce your carbon footprint, and also reduce the amount of chemicals released into the environment from air conditioning units.
