Is Icynene Safe To Use In My Home?By admin
Friday, 16 November 2018
When it comes to health and safety in the workplace, we are more than prepared. Although our home insulation is a non-toxic product there are precautions and measures that need to be taken upon application to ensure when people ask is Icynene safe, the correct safety measures are taken to ensure full customer satisfaction.
So is Icynene safe? We know so.Our team has been specially trained to meet all the requirements for installation and Insulation safety measures as we are trained by the manufacturers themselves.
These high standards of application and workplace etiquette that we adhere to in the workplace are not only confirmed by independent reviews sites such as Trustpilot, but also through Icynene themselves as we are labelled as certified and licensed installers.
WHEN ASKING IS ICYNENE SAFE, PEOPLE COMPARE POLYURETHANE AND ICYNENE INSULATION. WHICH ONE IS MORE SUITABLE FOR A FAMILY ORIENTATED HOME?
Icynene comes out on top every time for this, the safety issues you get with polyurethane is that it is a closed cell insulation product. It is a little known fact to the common homeowner that the structure of your property can change with the seasons.
Open cell insulations such as Icynene are breathable and move with the structure to your building which prevents any damage to your rafters, roof or timer frame structures which can be affected.
ALTHOUGH ICYNENE CLAIMS TO BE ECO FRIENDLY, IT STILL USES CHEMICALS UPON APPLICATION. IS IT SAFE TO BE AROUND THESE?
When it comes to Icynene safety, the reason you may see our team taking precautionary measures when installing is because upon application the combination of chemicals released can be known to cause respiratory issues. It is proven that once these gases are inert they are COMPLETELY safe to be around.
The reason our installers wears protective suits and breathing apparatus is because we are exposed to 2 or 3 jobs a day where the chemicals are still settling. Under Icynene Insulation safety standards we give 24 hours settling period before homeowners can go into their insulated area after application.
This is set as a precaution and to date Icynene have had 25 years of proven performance with over 350,000 homes insulated.
WHICH ORGANISATIONS ASKED IS ICYNENE SAFE? THESE RECOGNISED THAT THE HOME LOGIC MEASURES PUT IN PLACE ARE SUITABLE FOR HOME-OWNER APPLICATION.
Icynene Spray foam have gained recognition and approval for their safety precautions from a number of globally recognized organisation including:
BBA – The British board of Agrément, one of the most recognised UK boards for offering approval, certification and test levels for the manufacturers of products in the UK. Their practices have been developed over 60 years and offer sound reassurance for those looking for advice on the performance of a product.
Stroma – Home Logic are certified Stroma installers. Stroma certifications are specially designed for each trade which gives you a more niche qualification as opposed to BBA. They are closely tied to schemes including Green Deal and have timely/regular developments.
HOW SAFE ARE THE CHEMICALS USED WHEN APPLYING ICYNENE INSULATION?
Spray foam is formulated by combining a mixture of 2 separate components A side and B side. When these components react they give off heat and expand to up to 100x there size, this ensure complete airtightness with insulation.
The A side component contains a combination of methylene diphenyl diisocynaate (MDI) and polymeric (pMDI). These are small chemical combinations which form the backbone of our insulation.
The B side is a mix that typically contains:
- Polyols- oils and oil derivatives that allow the bondage of polymer plastic to the MDI.
- Flame retardants – to ensure that the product is not flammable ad safe for household. Alternatives such as fibreglass are flammable, this further
- Catalysts – agents that can slow and control the rate of reaction to desired effect.
- Surfactants – components that control the mixing of raw materials.
A quote from the Saskatchewan Research Council on is Icynene safe?
‘This recommendation/analysis is based on several SRC studies showing that once spray application of Icynene Spray Foam is complete, under modest ventilation rates of 0.3 air changes per hour (ACH), levels of volatiles dissipate within 24 hours. The analysis was produced and reviewed by independent toxicologists who determinedthat buildings insulated with Icynene were suitable for re-occupancy within 24 hours.’
Open cell insulations such as Icynene are breathable and move with the structure to your building which prevents any damage to your rafters, roof or timer frame structures which can be affected
IS ICYNENE SAFE? ICYNENE INSULATION CAN IMPROVE HOME SAFETY BY PREVENTING MOLD.
Icynene improves health and safety around the home by providing your property with an airtight envelope. This envelope blocks airborne moisture from infiltrating through walls, ceilings and any other applied areas to prevent damp.
It also benefits if you have roof or plumbing fixture leaks, as once the repair has been made Icynene absorbs any water that may have been spread from a leakage.
