Parking Requirements For New Dwellings: The Definitive GuideBy admin
Thursday, 19 September 2019
Specific parking requirements for new dwellings during the build phase may be stipulated by local or planning authorities, and can cover size dimensions and materials, depending on their location and use.
However, when it comes to a property you already own, it’s easier to choose your driveway, pathway and parking requirements based on your preferences.
Elsewhere in the world, resin bound driveways have been the market leader of product for several years but now in the UK, these are beginning to grow in popularity, as property owners recognise the numerous benefits of such surfaces…
Resin bound driveways are made up of pieces of stones, marble, recycled glass and natural aggregate that are coated all over with a clear resin before being blended together to ensure an even distribution of materials throughout the mixture.
Despite seeming as though it’s a spongy gel-type of product, resin is actually solid once cured; and extremely hard-wearing.
You may have noticed that resin bound surfaces are being increasingly used in areas of heavy traffic and high footfall, such as shopping mall car parks and children’s playgrounds. This is exactly why!
The smooth but solid surface that resin creates does not crack, scuff or become damaged like traditional concrete or paving blocks. It can withstand even the heaviest of mass on top of it, and will not deteriorate over time, or allow weeds to grow through.
As resin bound driveways are made up of a mixture of different materials, this can be mixed and matched to meet your colour, shape or size specifications.
This enables you to best complement the existing exterior of your home, and not just make a bold statement that detracts from it… which is all too often seen with distinctive and bright paving designs!
What many people don’t realise is that resin bound driveways are porous. This means that liquid can (slowly) pass through their surface and drain out naturally, without leaving standing water on the top, or requiring additional drainage to re-route the water.
This is in line with SUDs (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) standards, which encourages natural drainage rather than routing water elsewhere using pipes or water courses.
This means that no area has to take on any excess water and flood, instead routing it to naturally spread and drain back into the earth.

Bespoke Shaping and Sizing
Once the stone and aggregate has been coated in the resin and blended through, it is poured into a sub-grid, or onto an existing flat and solid surface.
As the material is poured in and not laid, there’s nothing to be cut down to size, and the mixture can be easily applied around drains, man-hole covers and plants. No matter how awkwardly shaped or sized your driveway or path, resin bound materialcan easily cover it!
Unlike the stereotype of chance tradespeople who lay driveways, resin bound driveways are installed by specialist technicians.

“[I had a] big steep drive with a little border on the side, which I wanted covered. Nothing was too much trouble for these guys and they finished covering a huge area with resin bonded small gravel in just one day. Four men working flat out in harmony!”
“The men were very polite and did a good job, everyone remarks on it when they see it. We have had lots of compliments about our driveway!”
“The whole process from the product demonstration, surveying, initial ground work and finally laying of the resin drive was professional, quick and efficient. The workmen were on schedule every day and kept us briefed on progress. They were also polite and happy to answer any questions.”Related Home Logic Living Articles
