Removing Mould From Walls: Top TipsBy admin
Thursday, 28 November 2019
Black mould appears in areas of your home that are warm, damp, and humid. Black mould first appears in cooler areas, and then spreads deeper into your home. That being said, let’s take a look at the main causes of black mould, and how to remove them…
Why Does Black Mould Appear on Internal Walls?
To find out the causes of black mould on internal walls, we must understand what condensation is, and the conditions that combine to create it.
We cause condensation on a daily basis. Cooking, washing dishes, bathing, and even breathing all produce droplets of moisture. This build up of moisture is then released into the air.
Sadly, the air can hold only a certain amount of vapour. If the vapour is cooled, it turns into droplets of water, commonly called condensation.
Every home gets condensation at some time, usually when a lot of moisture or steam is produced and released. It is normal to find the windows misted up in the morning after a cold night.
Unfortunately, condensation spells a considerable deal of trouble for your internal walls, and can, in some cases, compromise structural integrity.
Spray foam insulation is far from a one trick pony. It also acts as an air barrier, moisture barrier, and heat barrier, ensuring comfortable conditions all round!
What Can You Do To Prevent Mould on Internal Walls?
So…now that we know why mould appears, the next question to ask is…what can be done to prevent it? Welcome to moisture management 101:
- Dry your washed clothes outside (on the balcony, for example), as often as you can
- When cooking, cover pans, and do not leave the kettle boiling
- When a room is in use, keep a small window, or trickle vent, open
- Ventilate bathrooms and kitchens on a regular basis
- Keep your bathroom and kitchen doors closed
- Wipe down windows, frames, and other affected areas, with fungicidal wash
The astoundingly airtight seal provided by spray foam accommodates every crack and hole in your home-a refreshing change to traditional materials, which sag and lag over time!
Spray Foam Provides a Permanent Solution
The great thing about effective insulation is that it reduces the risk of black mould appearing, by curbing the conditions that cause them. Insulation keeps your home warm, moisture-free, and mould-free as well; good news for your health, and good new for your home.
Put simply, mould needs tiny spores to reproduce, and if the conditions are conducive, they can do so at a alarmingly rapid rate.
They can grow on paper, carpet, foods, wood, as well as other household materials.
When you insulate your home, you prevent not only air infiltration from happening, but moisture and condensation as well.
In warm areas, where humidity is high outside, moisture can penetrate the internal walls of your home if the house/apartment is inadequately insulated. Water also accumulates indoors, especially when you have no existing insulation in place.
While there are many insulation products on offer, spray foam is one of the best. Spray foam is sturdy, strong and resilient, expanding up to 100 times its original size, to fill every available space.
Spray foam effectively seals spaces where condensation is likely to attack. In most cases, homeowners install spray foam insulation in a bid to drive down their bills.
But spray foam insulation is far from a one trick pony. It also acts as an air barrier, moisture barrier, and heat barrier, ensuring comfortable conditions all round.
There’s no denying mould is unsightly-but did you know that can also prove detrimental to health?
We’re talking: allergic reactions, irreversible lung damage, sneezing, coughing, and more. Why take the risk?
