When we think about using insulation in our homes, we will almost always think of the energy saving benefits. These are many – insulation can improve our energy bills, reduce heat loss and even keep our homes cool in the Summer.
But the right type of insulation can even keep the average semi detached house noise free – improving your environment, and ensuring your relationship with your neighbours remains amicable!
A study carried by scientists at Imperial College London found in 2017, that noise pollution could have a detrimental effect on our health, and, in particular, our heart health. They studied 144,000 adults and discovered that noise exposure correlated with an increased risk of heart disease, caused by stress.
Additionally, those people exhibited higher levels of blood sugars and triglycerides. The scientists believed that this could be due to the added stress of constant noise, and the lack of sleep that inevitably follows.
A further study carried out by Mimi Hearing Technologies, a german firm, looked at 200,000 people and found that those who live in a noisy environment such as a city were more likely to suffer with hearing loss. In fact their hearing was on average ten years older than would be normal for their age.
A number of new technologies have been brought in to reduce noise pollution including: electric cars, different road surfaces, noise cancelling earphone and reducing traffic volume.
However, none of these are effective in the short term, and most won’t be helpful if it is your neighbour who is making the most noise in your home.
Anyone who lives in a noisy home will be able to tell you how it can become a problem for sleeping, and interfere with their ability to relax. Constant or intermittent noise can cause relationship breakdowns with neighbours, and can even lead to problems selling your home.
With the aforementioned in mind, we’ve compiled the following guide to semi detached house noise reduction, including common noise niggles, their far-reaching effects, and the actions you can take to solve them…
